CDC Aerobatics Squadren

I mentioned this idea earlier in another thread but i'm looking to actualy get it started.

Basicly the idea is to have a squadren of chracters who practice various manuvers, with the goal of being able to perform fairly inpressive coorinated flight. Think air-shows.

asside from the fact that it may be cool to do air shows every now and then this would have grater benifit in that it will enhance manuvering skill (and by extention combat skill) and i think it would help with escort duties. Think how much more impressive it is to have 3 escorts flying in formation.

Questions?

Comments?

I full support this idea. However, I mself cannot do this because: A. I have terrible lag at times, usually when facing large groups, stations or wormholes and B. frankly I probably can't manuver to the level waned easily

But people who think they can do this, you'll be paid extra. If not by the client, the guild will subsidize extra payment to you.

I love this idea, I'm in

(Go google skype, I'm thinking it would be really nice for this)

well, i don't think anyone in game is actualy good enough for what i'm thinking yet. personaly i'd need to get a lot better at precision straffing.

anyway, i figure the best thing to do is get people taliking about what could be done and what would be cool.

i figured the squadren would need a signature ship and or color, and some practices at the race-tracks would be a good starting point.

fo the ship class i recomend either the Warthog Mk2, the Cent mk 2 or 3, or the Vulture Mk 3 or 4. I chose these ships because they don't have nation requirnments and are reasonably manuverable.

You're right that no one is really up to coordinated maneuvers yet, but I'm guessing that we're going to be using FA mode a lot

oh yeah

I want to see the squadron flying wingtip-to-wingtip, and then /explode at the same time.

That'd be awesome!

Now that's something with which I could help >:)

/me fires a single MLC round into the center of a tight, hexagonal ring of Vultures...

I would pay to see that. I'd pay more to press the trigger.

I like the idea though Lord Q. I look forward to seeing this in action.

Lecter: MLC??? Is that like the MSC?

It's the "Mobile LeberMac Collector"

Usage: fired at LeberMac, LeberMac explodes. Lecter "collects" parts of LeberMac to chew on whilst going about his daily business.

Still have my left arm? Using it as a backscratcher?

I'll consider it.

We actually did a little something like this one night while we were bored. Nothing fancy, mind you, just some simple wedge formations and breakaway maneuvers.

Very tricky to pull off properly, but it's kinda fun. And yes, the voice chat helps immensely.

I think that flying with your view "outside" your ship would help immensely, and yeah FA on, everyone in same ship, synchronize speed, leader calls out the turns ahead of time and everyone executes on "mark"

We should try this. I'm thinking Vulture Mk I's.

Okay, I had to post.

I would love to see this, and if this gets off ground i might be tempted to come back to this game just to join this :).

Some of us had flew in formation, 2 or 3s, when we were playing UIT Border patrol alts, and it's a lot of fun. Here are some disjointed comments :

(a) The Radar is your friend. Get a good feel about the color of the dots and distance.

(b) Turbo formation flying is very hard. Shape and I tried to pull a simple maneuever of turboing around a roid in formation, it was tough.

(c) Vults are prettier than cents for formation flying.

(d) Formation flying through stations!

Finally :

(e) We really need "freelook" to be able to effectively pull this off. It's too tough to fly in formation if you cannot see what your friends are doing.

[EDIT : one more thing : somebody suggest to the devs that we should be able to track more than 1 target....even 20th century F14s can do it why can't uber-spacefighters?]

ok, well we'll try to have a general interest meeting Friday night at around 10:00pm EDT (i think that's somwhere around 2:00am GMT).

meet in Sedina B-5 with a Vulture (anny model at this point).

If that time is bad for anyone, feal free to peropse another time or at least make your interest known in this thread.

Just a reminder, this is intended to be a CDC afiliated orginisation, but we can decide exactly what level of affiliation is actualy feasable.

Being an actual pilot... and one *with* formation experience... this interests me *bigtime*. Flying formation *is* more difficult than it would seem... and the thought of bringing it ingame properly is even more daunting... There has to be clear communication by *lead*... and wing/trail has to *trust* lead, keep quiet, and keep focused. If you have ever actually heard the comm freq of a formation... it is basically lead reciting the pre-defined keys... everyone should know the stuff upfront... my suggestion would be to start small, with pre-defined goals... work each until proficient, and then join them together to create the "show".

It would be a *really* fantastic trailer for future marketing if it were pulled off... and filmed. :)

INM played with this once. We even managed to use formation flying against some Secros. That was back in the day, of course.

This'll rock.
