I donno if there was a thread like this before, but lets start a new one anyway (or bump the old one for me :P).

When did you sign up for Vendetta?, and who was the most helpful person you met when you were a newb? What happened to you when you were a newb?

I think I signed up for Vendetta around June 26 last year, it was exactly 1 week before I went on vacation (I think). The most helpful person I met was Paedric (Serco). He gave me money ;). Sparrow (Serco) was also helpful, me and him did fake duels in s12. For the first 2 months, All i did was stay in s12 (no joke). People scared me outside of s12. My first venture was to get out of s12 (from s2)... the bots kept killing me... I didn't know how to home. I eventually found out how to home, and I ventured further out. I homed in a station, and when I undocked I saw a ton of L-mines... I kept dieing. The mines stopped in about 2 minutes as far as I remember. Then out of nowhere someone shoots missles at me, and I kept screaming help help! :(. I homed in s7 (I think, I remember the background) and he kept griefing me. This was all in my first day. I stayed inside s7 stattion for about 15 minutes and then undocked. To this day I do not know who that person was. All I can remember for sure is that he was Itani and used Flares... My second day... I logged in at a bad time. Arotle was Massivly L-mining s7 (I didn't know him at the time, I probably gave him 100 kills that day). It was sort-of-fun. But I kept dieing. It was annoying. I finnally got out of the L-mine mess and met another person. Invisible One (Itani) I had a lot of unoffical bus duels with him, and won most of them :P. /me skips a few days. I see Arolte again. He is mining again. He also keeps n00king something /me goes to look at his screenshots, the first ones ever.

I died a lot. :(. After those "events" I just stayed in s12 all day... all night... until something urged me to venture out into the universe. I had around 130 deaths in those 2 days... but something in this game kept me coming back, despite dieing 130 times *cough* Arolte *cough*.

Most helpfull person (or at least the person who stands out most in my mind) was Purple Prune. He gave me around 100k.

And the best story I can think of from my days as a newb was that I was exploring (first time I actualy went out of serco space) and was headed towards gold nation, upon entering 11 i was killed by somebody ,cant remember who, but they were quite well known back then. So anyway (being a newb) I bitched and cried on general chat asking why he had killed me in my new vult (dident know how to trade so all my money came from botting :P) and he said it was cause there was a flag cap going on. Which in fact there was not. So I got even more pissed and flew off in my bus towards gold nation and proceded to grab the flag. That lasted about 2 seconds before the fembots got me. (the turrets of ye olde station defense) And then proudly proclaiming "Now that is what a flag cap looks like!" And then spending about another hour and a half killing bots to get another vult :D

I joined back around 2.4...something? Was it 2.4.5? I don't know how long ago that was. At any rate, there were only the bots to play with in the DM sector (which looked like the old sector 7) and maybe some live player showed up once an hour. I used to try to only maim them because if you killed them they left for good. On a good day Incarnate or "Dance Dance Karimazov" (sp?) would appear and kick my butt for ahwile. I remember at some point Ku Genin appeared and we'd have races (which he always won).

i joined at the very beggining of 3.2.0 (as it came out), don't remember the exact date.

of my newb i remember being anoyed the bots ran away so fast (the aim sys was very new to me and anoying to control). also remember how hard it was getting to s9 and back with some good cargo. always pirates on the way.

I joined late 3.1, a mac-crazy MSN buddy introduced me to it, he went by the name of StarFighter. But... he got busy with work, and I stayed on. Sorry.

I remember holding sector 9 in reverence with its bots... Takumi gave me my first creds (which I spent on a fully-outfitted you-know-what) and the first player I killed was Lemming. After several attempts. In my bus. :op
Khral was a terror, and Blitz (or 'x') seemed to be the good guy... I also remember Khrally getting royally pissed off when he flew into my mines as I was wandering round the tunnels of s7 briskly (since I was being chased by him)...

Eh, I joined around january, and during a brief stint as a blue pilot the brand new universe came out! What was I going to do!? For one thing, all my hard-earned credits were gone! As were my favorite weapons!
Obviously, there was but one thing to do. A bit of trading. After that, once I'd earned a bit of credits, I went out and met this one british guy in this one sector. I homed there, cause he was scary, and flew around aimlessly whilst he pwnd me in his original prom. Then I got sad, because I was a newbie and whatnot. Then more people came, and I made a bit of credits running out of the station wildly in my bus, grabbing whatever cargo was left, and running back, hoping wildly that I'd escape notice. Then, I had enough money for an atlas! Wee! An atlas!
I bought it and ran like hell when the opportunity presented itself. And I woulda made it! If it was for the roid ambushing me evilly... Then the British dude laughed at me. :-[

Right then. After a bit more flopping around n00bishly this one guy came by and said "Hey! Join my guild!" So I said " 'key."
Then I was ina guild. Then the guild broke up violently. That was sorta fun. But only in retrospect.
Then this other guy came by and said "hey! Why don't you join serco!" and so I said " 'key" And.. yea. That's about it. A short, but fiery career.

I joined last October, which I guess was mid 3.3? Anyways, I found the game in September, but wasn't able to download it for some reason I fail to remember.

My first character was Daurigon C. Mikado of NT. I didn't know how to orientate myself, how to dock, how to move, how to chat, how to do anything! Someone tought me to bind things, and stupid me tried to bind the NT flag, but at the time I didn't know what it was. I quickley learned how to move around s3, but no further. Collisions and explosions were plentiful. Good thing I had no credits to waste. Heck, I didn't even know how to get them! I was fed my first generous credit donation from someone of 10k. In 15 minutes it was gone. So, after a few hours, I ventured into s6 to be destroyed over 100x by the bots. I didn't have anything to loose, except my patience. I persisted in asking people "HOW TO KILL THE OTHER SHIP THINGS THAT ARE KILLING ME ALL THE TIME". Alot of people replied and it was all the same thing. "Shoot back!". So I did. My first kill! Then I learned how to dock, how to find stations, wormholes and the like. I learned that not everyone in the Universe was/is friendly and that I should avoid roids at all costs. I took up the "sport" of trading, and here I am today!

What a boring lecture. Bye now!

I joined on September 22, 2002. (About 3.0.6 or 3.0.7)

Most important/helpful person to me? Dunno. In 3.0/3.1 it would be StarFreeze... he gave me a cool 200k to start playing with. Overall... I would have to say Tempest, who introduced me to this test in the first place. (By the way, whoever got shot by him during 2.8 in the neutral area... that was me flying. :P )

I think I joined 3.0 or 3.1, was there a 3.0? Let's see, it was widgets and just the four ships. Light, Medium, Heavy plus Bus (or was it 3?) They looked different for each nation, things were switching so much back then I have trouble keeping track of what was where.

Dog fights were silly because they consisted of 2 people flying in wide circles to dodge the seekers. Only a few vets from 2.x were any good with ions.

My first player interaction was Phoenix, whom I believe is responsible for my first 5 or 6 deaths at least. I was exploring Itani home sector, well actually just hanging out in the wh when Phoenix popped in and popped me, (it was a lot easier to pop in and out of the game then).

I got all angry and was like: Phoenix you ****, what was that for?

Phoenix was all: Don't swear please. Don't you know who I am noob, I'll bankrupt you! Don't camp in sect 1 if you don't like it.

I was all like: Oh. dang...

(Phoenix would always let you go if you claimed banckruptcy, sometimes even if he knew you were lieing)

I remember the release that had all the new weapons and batteries and stuff was pretty exciting, was that 3.2? All of a sudden the game suddenly felt a lot bigger all of a sudden suddenly. I miss widgets though, they seemed so universally usefull.

My fondest memories are of armada flag caps. It was great getting a group together to invade enemy territory and take thier ball. Perhaps even more fun was realizing that there are 11 Red and 12 Blue (I couldn't keep Serco and Itani straight back then) in Sectors 10 and 11 but Asp and Jameson just logged on in 6 so we'll give em a run for thier money!

oh.. I joined.. A long time ago... In a galaxy far far away when there were but three sectors with some strange netting like wormholes in green from the "spawn" sector.

At first, I jumped into the Deathmatch sector, cause I wasn't interested in coop gaming after trying it in Quake..

I found bots, I died. I found more bots, I learned to dodge. I found powerups.

Then skywalker blasted me.

I tried again, another powerup, another bot...

Then skywalker blasted me.

This went on until I logged off, I came back later to explore the mysteries of the different colours ships.. I couldn't really find out what made them different at first. The small and the medium just felt the same..

Some point after that I was drawn off the net, life issues and so on.. 3.x enters and I'm back. This time, Skywalker is joined by Phoenix. And they kill me a lot :P

However, there are more people online now, Some like Dan Man help me out, teach me how to fly a centurion. Others like Charlie Manson just kill the people who harass me. Life is fun and Lemming has pie. And teaches me to boost the heck into the dock while hitting enter repeatedly :P

Sometime after that I get fed up, and start to learn how to use the promethus. at first with homers all over the place, but soon I was learning to get the AGT and other nice tools. Then I learn the flares... Mostly by watching Icarus make people dance, and run into the missiles. Time, after time.

Around this time I'm one of the prom-jocks, killing and pirating, Inducing slight bouts of terror as people get up and into convoys to survive us....

Needless to say, we get into convoys too. Theres nothing as magical as the force of three armed prom's heading from the hole against the unsuspecting trader in the centaur.. ..or the suspecting trader for that matter ;)

....zoom ahead a bit, and I get fed up with the constant pirating. There are no traders left, only pirates, and pirates pirating pirates... I quit. Spider was no more. (the rest can be continued ;)

Glad I was of some small help to you MonkRX. FYI: It was only a small amount of credits, not a windfall. A grub stake if you will. Put those hands back in your pockets now. 0.o

I joind back in 3.2.x (or was it very early 3.3.x?) Signed up 07-02-2003 @ 14:32:57. Read about Vendetta on the DescentBB.net site. I remember that Phoenix was Itani, Blitz was Serco, and Grim Battol (also Serco) was running around shouting "Eat sunflares sucker!" at any non Serco that ventured into his gunsights. Flag caps where plentiful, credits more so and I would tend to work defense in the homesector. I died alot and dreamed of a universe very close to what we now have.

I joined sometime in October to November 2003. I can't remember who helped me much, I guess the people who introduced me to the game (mainly Flea). I just remember everyone speaking in hushed tones about Icarus' greatness. Then I learned how to dodge a few months ago (I'm pretty slow at learning stuff on Vendetta, mainly because I don't ask) and now I can kill most bots, especially when I have multiple Jackhammers.

My story:

Did anyone else get po'd when bots killed you when you were a newb? I never knew that bots weren't players until several weeks after I started playing. Every time one would kill me, I'd be like, "Gah, [NPC]Aulzi, you need to stop shooting me. I don't shoot at you stupid!!"

Looking back, I laugh at my stupidity. Also, there are other stories that hit the community pretty hard involving me, but I don't want to bring them up, noting that it will tarnish my Georgian reputation... Hehehehe...

I joined in 3.1.12, sometime in january/febuary 2003(I think) after being introduced to it by my friend Chris(Mad Moose), who quit later from being bored with vendetta.

I'm not really sure who was the most helpful person I knew back then, I really didn't talk that much. Kinda just tried things out until they worked, I guess :P
I think around 3.1.14 I switched to gold and began using the name of "Scuba Steve 3.0" and stayed there until right before 3.2, where I switched to blue as Scuba Steve 8.0. I stayed on blue pretty much until a few months ago, where I switched back to red as Akkisti. Up till now my swithes were based on what team had the deadliest players(Switched to gold because of Furball, then to blue because of Phoenix), but I came back to red because I had more friends there than anywhere else.

I joined up in 2.4.6, shortly after Whistler. I used to bum around the sectors and try to enter a (at that time totally nonfunctional) station bay using only my turbo for thrust and my mouse. After that we did have races. I recall Whistler and I (and despite what he says, he did win some of them) racing from the station in Deathmatch to the station in CTF. When 3.0 was first released, I was with the Itani, and remained a loyal Itani soldier for about three weeks before seeing the light and coming to stand with my Lady Serco (who was at that time Prometheus, but I digress.)
I tried founding an early clan, the [ISSP] in an effort to control what I believed to be heavy pirating. Little did I know. That went down in flames and I resorted to pirating until CTF came into fashion, and I served as a flag defender. Since then I've mostly been an explorer and loyal Serco warrior, with a night job as a very slightly insane Serco Monk.

Paedric, that was 3.2. That money you gave me was enough... anyway, 2 weeks later a1k0n (I think), screwed up and gave everyone 100mil... (and then I think Ray fixed and gave everyone 100k again...) and I was cheating and logged on to other nations to get 1 mil flag cap money :P.

hmm I downloaded it in the spring of 2003 I believe. I was busy though and never played it right away. When I first started playing I remember complaining because then we had to pay for repairs. As a noob paying for repairs was impossible so I just got a new bus every time one was drained of hull.

Most helpful to me was whoever the guy was that capped 30 mins after I logged on. I never needed money after that.

Lets see, When did I join. Huh, I think it's been around 2, maybe 2.5 years or so. I remember playing for quite a while in the 9 sector universe which came out either just before or just after I started playing, I cant remember for sure. We had, hmm type 1 and 2 missiles, red green and blue ions and red, green and blue lazers. the most evil thing in the universe were the Bots in sector 9, there were only 2 of them but they were LEATHAL.

Memories, hmmmmmm, I remember Being killed less than 10 minutes after I logged in for the second time. (the first time i flew around for about 5 minutes managed to kill a bot or 2 then had to log off cause it was time for dinner.) I had decided to try a trade run for some cash. I made it all the way to sector 9, somehow avoided the bots (I think Blitz or Phoenix was killing them out of boredom at the time) and was on my way back to sector 1 (i was itani at the time, embarassing as that is, its the truth) when BANG I'm dead, all my money gone (i had spent it all on cargo)

Lets see, Most helpful person, probably either Starfreeze or Roguelazer, I got advice from both of them if i remember correctly.

I remember my first flag cap attempt, I got blown away by a turret of all things, I never even got close to the flag in my heavy ship. (I later learned how to dodge them, Back then you could dodge a circle all the way around them at less than 150m without ever even gettign hit, and the defbots were a joke.

3.0.8 for me. The newest feature was that ships could no longer carry infinite cargo. This would have been around August/September 2002.

Oh, and I have a paper here saying that the character "Scuba Steve 9.0" was about a 2/3-month n00b on 18-Sep 2003. That's the only person I have info on. It's his INM aptitude test, which I'll bet he doesn't even remember taking. He got a 32/36.

STORY:
The first time I logged in, I found cargo boxes outside the sector 1 station. I asked in chat if I could have them. Somebody (99%-sure it was FiReMaGe) said sure. That gave me a goodish amount of money. Of course, it took me about three days AFTER that time to find the "target" button. Before that, I had been shooting at everything without my targetting computer. Always fun, right? FiReMaGe also loned me 100k early on, which I still haven't repaid in full. My first death was probably at the hands of a sector 4 [AI]. My first player death was at the lvl2 rockets of Icarus. I remember how annoying it was to be flying through sector 9 with some cargo en route to sector 4 when he came up turbo-tapping (something I never learned how to do well) from behind and BLAM!
