Construction Yard?

Apr 05, 2007 RaWolfe link
This sounds weird for some.....a pretty good idea for others.

Why not have on 3 locations an nation Ship Yard? where players can rebuild and build there own ships up....add new guns and drag it onto there own ship. Aka you are rebuilding your hole ship from scratch =)

Maybe an nice tattoo onto the hull? or an new engine? Maybe you can put an better guns or torps onto it. It would be an interface where you see your ship hanging and that you go to an ship Interface where you buy the tools and stuff you need for your ship. Then go back to the Construction Interface and build/add/remove/edit your own ship =)

Atm I can guess that this won't be done at first, but this is what I more expected to be build into this game =) it would be lots more fun =)

Blah....missed that

While this idea is mindless and idiotic, there's a good one lurking in it.

Capships would need to be built somewhere a shitload bigger than any current station. Thus, there should be at least three shipyards built and dropped in.

Space docks. Haven't you seen that ST movie?

I dont find the idea "idiotic" at all...who here wouldnt like to modify, tweak customize the functionality/over all look of their ships? think of the possiblities! it would have to be balanced so you wouldnt have indestructable super ships...but smugglers/pirates could be faster or have more weapons, a cargo/transport could be torn down and redesigned as a gun/missile platform...etc...etc...

its really actually a great idea. this is a player driven game, so why not let the players have a greater deal of control in thier ships design? maybe even make some kind of skills so you or you and several other players with the right skills could build ships from scratch? its a great big universe out there, there is always room for diversity.

unless certain players are worried that they wouldnt be able to go "noob hunting" because you wouldnt know if the pilot you were targeting was a noob or an ace.

Tosh: I'm thinking of that one where Kirk tours the Enterprise while it's still in the shipyard being refitted. Is that space-dock? I'm not thinking of the star-bases which have interior docking; more like a framework within which ships are constructed.

Reign: Um, noob hunting has to do with the levels of your target and where you find them, and much less what you find them in. HTFH

As for your sad attempt at a defense: this is a great idea *for another game*, but we're talking about VO. The whole "it would have to be balanced" thing? That's why this (1) is a retarded idea and (2) will not happen. Basically, since you can already "tear down and rearm" anything you want, what you're talking about is moving/swapping/adding ports. This is not going to be implemented.

However, maybe INC would bless us with a more fleshed out sketch of what the fuck his 'Hard-points' system will be like?

wether it happens or doesnt its still a cool game...as for noob hunting, it has more to do with cowards who cant PvP with more seasoned players.

with of course the exception being when a noob just starts mouthing off. then its fine. but people who just blast noobs who are just trying to figure out the game, do the tutorials, mine or kill bots is pathetic.

8 hour trial + noob + jerk off killing him/her for no reason= one less paid account= one less player= less income for the Devs= the game advances more slowly.

You can take as many trials as you need to get a feel for the game. Even on the same e-mail address.

Anyways, check out this thread. It's kind of related to constructing huge Cappies.

I did not know that, its very generous of the Devs. but I stand by my statement that noob hunters discourage new players. most of my friends who play VO were noobs on that other scifi online game who got sick of the noob hunters and didnt start paying or canceled thier accounts.

besides...whats the appeal of noob hunting? wow...lets go after some one with no skills!!! thats a challenge and perhaps later we could go kick tied up retarded puppies. or hunt babies with high powered rifles.

perhaps later we could go ... hunt babies with high powered rifles.

I am *so* down for that.

And what you fail to understand is that there are those who are perfectly capable of engaging seasoned players with success (Hi Rode-a! ;) who still love the n00b hunt. This can be because there's not always seasoned players on to engage and/or because it's a different sort of challenge. As Trakus Shar, and previously as the good Doctor, I have a good bit of fun raiding into the other side's territory and causing as much havoc on whoever you find there as you can. Plus, if we keep it up, it may cause the Devs to get more creative with the whole sector/station defenses.

well Doc...you make a compelling arguement about enemy noobs...and the last part about the devs is a good point as well. and of course in many games I've seen noobs either get lucky or just have a natural talent...

perhaps I should have clarified...the noob hunters that I feel are detrimental are the ones who prey soley on noobs.

is there a guild for noobs? that could be interesting...a whole armada of noobs flying in formation.

off topic...

anyone know when the cap ships are supposed to be released to the players?

A formation of n00bs wouldn't remain a formation for long...
