I think the idea of having 'monitored' sectors in greyspace is kind of dumb. Having one certain sector where a faction can know if its convoy has been killed is unrealistic.

Example: Pirate Bill attacks a Xang Xi convoy in an unmonitored sector, killing a few moths and taking the cargo. Xang Xi has no knowlege of the piracy at the time, because they aren't monitoring the sector. One of the convoy escorts flies back to the station the voy came from and explains what happened. Or, part of the voy escapes and explains later, so Xang Xi decides they don't like Pirate Bill. The only way, thus, that a pirate should be able to escape faction loss is to completely obliterate the convoy, making it impossible for Xang Xi to know who destroyed the convoy. Xang Xi could also, knowing that their convoys are in danger, send 3 or 4 courier drones or the like with their voys that scatter upon an attack to assure that Xang Xi finds out who attacked them.

Faction standing as it is then, is very unrealistic, because it is impossible to lose faction standing with a faction outside of its own space by killing people, except for CtC. Realistically, this offense would lead to Pirate Bill being hated by every faction as news spreads from Xang Xi that their convoy was attacked.

A faction standing system like this only allows piracy to continue through Corvus, which according to its description is basically a conglomeration of criminals, as it were, for those who no one else likes. Corvus' economy is then based on only dishonest dealings: black market profits and piracy, because they only like the people that most everyone else hates.

It seems logical that the only way to be able to have good standing with Corvus would be to not have all the other UIT companies like you, and vice versa. Just as it seems logical that Having good standing with the Itani Nation would make it impossible for the Serco to like you, and it would be impossible to have two warring companies like you.

I think that the player should have to take sides in the many conflicts of VO, not just bouncing around merrily with all factions at PoS (not to insult all those who have this).

With this particular conflict (Corvus vs. UIT sub-companies) it would make sense that, by making yourself unaligned (as is stated might become possible) you would choose the Corvus side of this conflict and recieve faction loss and penalties from the UIT sub-companies and benifits and faction increase in Corvus. It makes sense that Corvus would offer drastically reduced prices to Pirates who would sell their ill-gotten cargo exclusively to them, thus advancing their economy. The idea of the Black Market would still stand with players that come to Corvus just to get weapons they don't have licenses for at high prices.

This would also make enemies more recognizable for newer players, because being unaligned basically screams 'Pirate'.

"Hawkfeather" I have a feeling that this may not work, lets just stick to Inc.'s Explanation shall we?

"I think that the player should have to take sides in the many conflicts of VO, not just bouncing around merrily with all factions at PoS"

In the backstory it explains that UiT are neutral and do not take part in Serco-Itani conflict... This is probably why the basis of All PoS exists.

Also, guidelines on Corvus explain that Corvus is mostly, if not completely enigmatic, but sometimes demonstrates completely new technology. This does not mean that Corvus itself is a pirate organization... Corvus has become a haven for pirate activities, because they distance themselves from Major Nations, and uphold laws that are different to those of the Major Nations.

Stop saying Soon(tm) and just bloody do it.
