Playlist improvements?

The playlist would be a lot more functional if there were play/pause/next/previous/loop current/random commands.

Also, maybe some kind of user interface?

wha...? ...playlist....?

maybe im just tired but playlist and vendetta? what r u talking about?

There is a way to make Vendetta play music, ojok2.

If you have OGG files stored in an M3U playlist, vendetta can cycle through them.... Ever wonder why there was a music volume slider but no in-game music?

bring up the console and type witought quotes "/playlist D:\songs.m3u" and change the path/filename as required. Note that the chatlength takes effect here so its best to put the list in the root directory.

You can also loop specific songs(and lose your place in the m3u) with the /playmusic command... same syntax.

the devs made a good choice using ogg. Its better than MP3 in all respects, is patent-free, open source, royalty free, and getting better as time goes on. An OGG video format is being worked on last i checked....

Music is always the first thing that gets turned off/disabled when I get a new game. Too distracting. Usually obnoxious. Masks improtant aural clues. I've just never had a use for it myself.

Really? I feel music really helps to build the atmosphere of a game. To each is own I guess. If there is anything that requires focus I can usually tune the music out.

Well, the music only comes out on my front speakers (YAY i got quadraphonic surround) for some reason. Most important 'aural clues' come from behind, IMO

meh, I just run Vendetta in a window and use iTunes. Vendetta without music is like toast without butter: it's acceptable, but it's kinda dry and doesn't taste as good.

iTunes? What is that?

Winamp 2.9x RULEZ

And any game in windowed is not as it should be...

Yeah, just use whatever mp3/ogg player you want - run it before Vendetta, or use Vendetta in windowed mode.

Or, if you're kewl, run ogg123 in the background playing ur tunes. :)

MMM. buy another monitor and hook up to empty port. 2 completely seperate displays. I love nVidia.

If you're running a half decent windowmanager *cough*enlightenment*cough*, you can also set up virtual desktops pretty easily, and run vendetta in windowed mode, but make it fill one of the desktops, and then save the window location. That way you can effectively have 6 displays, or 64, without the memory overhead that multiple copies of X will cause.

If you have multiple heads, try Xinerama to split a single display across them. Works pretty well, (especially with enlightenment), from what I've seen.

I use iTunes and a remote to navi it on a different monitor.

X0563511> WinAmp sucks, you can't tag anything, I prefer MusicMatch Plus for tagging on the Win OS. Quadraphonic sucks. 5.1 rules, here's how I do it, I have 5.1 sound card hooked up to my 5.1 receiver going out to my nice Klipsch set and my Altec sub. =^P, that's what I call sound, want to hear Halo or SSB:M in 5.1? Freaking rocks. Tho way to much money went into the system, I'm just glad that I bought it while I was still living with my mom back in the day when I didn't have to pay rent... the good old days.

Tagging? You mean metatag editing (EI artist/track/album)?

I have a 56k. I dont get music from the internet. I rip it from games or from CDs into OGG (cause MP3 sux) and play it that way. Winamp 2.9x is really stable and fast on my machine, it can occupy the system tray, and ive used it since it was started. You could say i am biased with that, but it works so well right now i dont need or want anything else.

5.1 sucks. the center channel screws it up and is a waste of space Plus, i got a front subwoofer and a rear... because i have 2 seperate speaker systems hooked up. One from Altec Lansing and one from Phillips. Cheaper too. each speaker system only cost abot $20-$30 and it sounds as well (fidelity, bass, and quality) as a 5.1 or better. The surround works well enough for me too. It sounds really natural, more than a 5.1 setup in my opinion*. For some reason my headphones are surround too.... sounds EXACTLY like a surround system. I wish i knew how that works. SBLIVE kicks arse!

* You should know i am 17, and was deaf in my right ear untill i was 12. My other ear and senses got sharper cause of it, and the prosthetic in it that lets me hear some really high freq stuff (i can hear/feel a dog whistle). I hear differently that most people, so what i got works perfect for me. Funny thing is, everything on my left side is slightly larger and stronger?!?! Wierd huh?

Lets kill this thread or get it back to its topic... the music support in Vendetta.

ID3 tagging, CDDB rocks, wish I could use it more often, I love ACC more then OGG, Heh, funny (ear thing).

Back on topic.

I bet you won't see anything like a built in OGG player with a GUI, since it isn't meant for you to play your own music, just that the devs kinda blurbed it out one day like "hey, and there is this thing too, now stop bugging up about music" If anything, the best you are going to get is something like in TA where you can pick to have the music be sensitive to what's going on, or have it all played in a row.
Jul 13, 2003 X0563511 link
I guess ill leave the music topic alone then....

ID3s are useless in my opinion. I use the filename (i name it myself) Artist - Title.XXX

Never use CDDB, cause it tries to look for game cd's with music tracks, looks for cd's IVE made, and takes too long (56k) and have never tried ACC.
