Gravity Mine buff

Mar 23, 2021 IronLord link
to use two Gravity Mines and reload them from empty is 250k. That is half a TU reload, as is after testing the gravity mine its pretty useless currently. Putting in the cost, the fact that it is a drop only, and its weak tug, it should be buffed heavily. im not sure SPECIFICALLY how to buff it. But the weak pull and pricey reload of it is awful. Either the pull or the proximity of it should be increase. maybe both.

Grav mine is actually pretty useful in the right hands. People have been selling them to station in latos, so you can pick them up pretty inexpensively. Instead of worrying about reload cost, just discard the used one and equip a new one.

A weapon shouldnt have to be used by a skilled player, or be discarded to be useful. It's completely unbalanced, and I'm suggesting the weapon be buffed so it can be used by everyone.

By that metric, rails should have amazing auto aim built in.

On a side note, i am not against buffs on the grav mine. I have made a suggestion a while back suggesting such a thing.

How so? Rail guns trade accuracy for range, speed and damage. They carry a healthy amount of ammo and they don't cost alot to reload. Gravity mines trade nothing for nothing. They have a weak tug, for a high reload cost for what it does. If the tug was significant, or constant. (like the mine doesn't explode, instead constantly pulls you towards it) I wouldn't mind the reload cost at all. The range on it is extremely low, meaning you have to lay out a great deal of them to get results (costing millions, just for a small effect). I don't see a game breaking issue with buffing them, or making them do a constant pull until destroyed or their life time goes out.

And it drains a power cell by -4000. AND it lasts for eight hours. That is insanely powerful!

Can someone explain how exactly it works? I've seen it mentioned a couple of times but I have yet to find a detailed description.

Yes. Now do you get the picture ?

Yeah, I can attest to the power of the drain mine. It was recently employed to stop a certain Goli loaded with XCs of Premium Ishik. The two delays of the grav mine delays in two strategic deployments led to the demise of the Goli. And we used it on a whim after chasing the thing for 12 sectors.

Grav mines are not to be trifled with. You just need to be mildly competent to use them.

Agreed mines are such a simple device but can be so deadly when the right user places them at the right places. It's such a simple yet so effective concept. Id be sweating if I was a capital ship owner and I knew someone really really wanted my goliath or trident dead.

I don't want to get into the economics but i'm quite positive people can afford the reload cost here and there and even just replacing it with a brand new one. And if it costs a few mil to kill a goliath or trident I personally call that day a win!
