The Logitech Extreme 3D Pro can strafe and roll.
If a joystick says it has a hat switch, it means it can strafe, if it says it was a twist handle, it can roll. I think these have to be programmed in, but I am unsure due to my lack of a joystick.

If you go to logitech's website and navigate yourself to the joysticks (gaming -> PC & Mac -> joysticks)

I prefer this one:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2221,CONTENTID=5032

Word to the wise though, I have this one:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2221,CONTENTID=5017

and the throttle on it is much better than the one on any of the new Logitechs.

The regular extrem 3D that is? Alrighty, cool. I'll work on getting that one. Sure the extra 10 programable buttons on the pro isnt worth it? Since you say the throttle on it i smuch better then any of the newer logtechs. Thanks for giving me a straight answer! Any one eleses suggestions are fine though :)

My Saitek Cyber 3D USB Gold works very well in Mac OSX for VO, despite the maker's total lack of Mac support. I was very happily surprised to find that every feature of the joystick works in VO. I love this stick, and it's highly recommended for lefties or for folks with large hands or small hands, because it's completely customizeable.

Hey raybondo can you respond to my post to, it'll make it look red with all the other ones. Heh, but seriously, do any of the devs know of good joysticks to play vendetta.

I should warn the many prospective joystick users viewing this thread... if your startup disk has USB Overdrive installed, whether it's on for Vendetta/vendettaclient or not, no joystick will work under VO. And those of you without USB Overdrive are missing the only way to turn off mouse acceleration on the Mac [that I know of].

I just picked up a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and have been testing it in VO in Panther and it's awesome...but it does take some getting used to. I'm expecting it to break down in a couple of months but I didn't like any of the others (Saitek, Thrustmaster) in terms of features, feel, or ergonomics.

The Logitech has been getting alot of complaints about calibration breaking down according to people on the web...don't know what that means for VO users. I know my Logitech rumblepad drifts in the Y axis when I tried it out in VO, even after setting the dead zone bigger in the calibration. I suppose that might happen to the joystick as well.

I have turning ("rudder control") on the twist (Z) axis and rolling on the X axis like an airplane...makes good intuitive sense, but the turning is a bit jumpy. It has the most buttons of any joystick I saw and I'm using just about all of them.

Also, I'm turboing with the thumb button and activating with one on the base. It feels great to turbo with that button for some reason.

Try it, but don't expect it to last forever...this may be a good one for buying one of those store exchange policies so you don't have to deal with Logitech tech support. At $35US it is just a few bucks more than the cheapest option with similar features.

Anyone ever used a yoke with VO?

What I've been using lately, which I think is insanely great :p. is dual joysticks. I use a Logitech Extreme 3D for pitch, turn and roll and a cheaper Logitech Attack 3 for Strafe up and down. I still suck at PvP but I have a gret time anyway. There's also enough buttons between them so I don't have to go to keyboard for normal gameplay.

WOW martin that's an awesome idea :)

i seriously want to leave work right now, go buy another Saitek, convert it to left-hand mode, and go play VO.
Jan 28, 2005 Martin.mac.au link
Well it takes a bit of getting used to but it's wickedly fun when you get the hang of it. I never have to touch the keyboard except for charinfo and chat.

Also as joysticks are so cheap it's quite a feasible option.

Two joysticks hu? I was thinking the exact same thing, but I didn't want to invest in a second joystick only to find out it wouldn't work with VO. At the moment I have been using a Logitech Exreme 3D Pro, and have been very happy. I'm not sure what the previous user was talking about. I think mine feels very reliable. However, time will tell. After a whole bunch of playing around with the setup, I have settled on the following key layout for those interested:
Turbo: Key 3
Brake: Thumb
Strafe L/R: Hat key left or right
Strafe U/D: keys 11 and 12 respectivly
Roll: Handle twist
Thrust: Hat key forward/back
My only gripe is that the throttle is pretty much usless if you are playing in physics mode. So far I am really happy with this setup. However, I might have to get a second joystick to try the two handed approach. BTW, I picked the joystick up off of ebay for 8 dollars.

Here's my rig

Logitech attack 3 (left hand)

Axis X & Y Strafe left/right and up/down
trigger = accelerate
rear top button = decelerate
centre top button = turbo
left top button = turbolock
right top button = Flight assist toggle

Logitech Extreme 3D (Right Hand)
Axis X & Y = Pitch and roll
Axis Z (twist) = turn <- this one takes some getting used to
trigger = primary fire
thumb = secondary fire
hatswitch up = select in front
hatswitch down = select closest enemy
hatswitch left = select none
hatswitch right = can't remember but it must be good :D
top front right button = autoaim toggle
top front left button = sector list
top back left button = activate
top back right button = tertiary fire.

I'm loving that Saitek X52. Has anyone tried it yet on a Mac?

Hello. I just purchase teh Logitech Extreme 3d pro and the only things that work are the actual movement of the joystick and the trigger. none of the buttons are recognized in VO. I DO have USB overdrive. Am I correct that I'll have to remove it for the joystick to completely work with VO? I have it installed for a logitech bluetooth mouse. Does anyone know of something I can use to program the Bluetooth mouse buttons and still use the logitech joystick and it's buttons?
Thanks,
Feb 05, 2005 Martin.mac.au link
Yes I believe USB overdrive will have to go I'm afraid.
Feb 05, 2005 ahbe link
Ya, USB overdrive will not work. You can however use GamePad companion.

http://www.carvware.com/gamepadcompanion.html

It's origionally designed to program joysticks/gamepads. However, it will work with any USB device. I have used it to program the forward and back buttons on my Logitech MX900 Bluetooth mouse. Shame on Logitech for STILL not releaseing any Mac drivers.
