I recently bought a joystick. I am having trouble with aiming. my accuracy has dropped dramatically, horribly since I switched to the joystick. But otherwise, I love it. It is much more comfortable.

I really don't understand how to change the calibration settings. I think I need to make the X & Y axis less sensitive particularly near the center of the stick.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Bye the way, I should tell you I am using a Saitek X52 Joystick and throttle. It's great. Almost all the functions work on my Mac except the thumb mouse and the mult-function display.

MJHorn - how IS that Saitek X52?
Apart from the sensitivity, I mean?
Is there a way to set the sensitivity to a more "logarithmic" scale instead of a linear response curve?

I've just bought a saitek X52 and have it working well on my Mac using GamePad Companion.
My main problem when trying to set it up was that you lose throttle control when you switch Flight Assist off and I don't like using that lovely throttle just for accel/decel.
I made a little bind to solve my problem which is combined with gamepad companion - you choose "Selected Element" as Z-Axis and change Action to multiple keys then press s & w (assuming you're still using them for decel & accel respectively) and I suggest you turn the sensitivity down a bit.
Then in wgaf.cfg file you put the following;

alias flightTog "flightOff"
alias flightOff "set flymodeflag 0; bind w +Accelerate; bind s +Decelerate; echo 'Flight Assist Off setup'; alias flightTog flightOn"
alias flightOn "set flymodeflag 1; bind w ''; bind s ''; echo 'Flight Assist On setup'; alias flightTog flightOff"

Then in the config.ini file find the joystick parameters and assign the button of your choice, in may case 29;
JOYBUTTON29=flightTog

Hope this is helpful to someone... will post in the bind thread as well.

I have the Thrustmaster Top Gun Fox 2 Pro USB and it is pretty awesome. there is a model with a separate Throttle control like the Saiteck one, but this one is just the single joy stick. Looks like a fighter aircraft joystick, and much cheaper than the saiteck ones. Instantly recognized by Vendetta too. not a horde of buttons, but most of what I need, especially in a fight.

on the stick: (X-Y axis plus twisting rudder Z axis control)
one trigger,
one 8 way hat button (only 4 ways work in Vendetta)
two thumb buttons on top of stick
one side index finger button

On the base:
three buttons
one throttle slider bar (only works for throttle in flight assist mode)

more buttons would be cool, but it is very ergonomic with this layout.

>>>>Anyone ever used a yoke with VO?<<<<

I'm doing that at the moment, simply because I don't own a joystick and haven't got around to going to the shop to buy one. I have the CH Products Flight Yoke, and it is superb for civilian flight sims like X-Plane, but I don't recommend it for VO.

Yokes are found in civil aircraft and a few large military ones. Fighters and other high-performance military aircraft are flown with a stick either between the pilot's legs or off to the side. In other words, nobody dogfights with a yoke. In VO, the yoke is great for smooth manoeuvering, docking etc. but it is very cumbersome in combat. I'm still a noob at 1/1/0/1/0 so I'm only killing stupid bots and it's OK for that, but I aim to get a pair of joysticks. I really like CH Products sticks, so I'll probably get a Fighterstick or Combatstick for the right hand, and the ambidextrous Flightstick for the left.

AKA ecka estenk

I've been trying a logitech attack 3 with the pots replaced by decent quality ones and a logitech dual action gamepad thing for the left hand . No problems setting them up in vo , nor did I need any special drivers for OS X .4. I'm still a rotten shot , but my ability to dodge has got a wee bit better.

Most Joysticks I have ever owned benefit from a wee drop of "electrolube" or similar plastic compatible lubricant on the mechanism, really helps them to return to their true centre points.

cheers

I use:

Left-Logitech Attack 3
X and Y-strafe
trigger-secondary fire
also; auto aim, FA, mouse look, hail, scroll up and down (chat), nearest enemy, no target, and next in front

Right-Logitech Extreme 3-D Pro
X-turn
Y-pitch
trigger- primary fire
thumb-teriterity
hat- accelerate, decellerate, turbo, brake
Also; turbolock, activate, nav map, sector list, view change, char info, hud on/off, and screen dump (still room for 2 more!)
now I only use keyboard to type

Hi!
I use a Saitek CYBORG Evo on my Mac. I can use every button. I love it.

Okay this sucks.
I cannot get my Strategic commander to show up and be usable in Vendetta Online.

I whacked USB Overdrive and installed that GamePad Companion. Still no good.

What am I screwing up?

Okay, how is the Saitek X52 for Mac? I hear grabled bits and peices but no clear "Yes, it works fine and is okay/good/great" or "No, it doesn't work well and it sucks" (for Mac).

Just picked me up another Cyborg Evo for total of $23 plus shipping. Here comes LeberMac into the world of DUAL JOYSTICKS!

Hey Leber;

Just bought one Evo from that site. Thanks for the link. I'm not sure about the dual joysticks. I might try that later on, but first I wanted to ask you how your two stick gaming has gone. Are you happier? Is it working well? Anything I should watch out for?

Thanks.

I'm still getting used to it. I think I like it more than what I was doing before - left hand stick and right hand mouse. (I'm right handed)

The dual sticks are letting me use the forward-referse axis as a third strafing axis, and it really helps. So I'm liking the setup so far.
Jul 01, 2006 Klabbath link
I'm assuming that it was pretty easy to set up? It's been so long since I've played a game that needed a mouse that I don't even remember how the PC did it.

What's killing me in game play is having to reacquire the target all the damn time because my mouse is at the edge of the mouse pad. It makes me say many bad words in a loud voice. I'm really looking forward to just using the joystick.

Now, the evo can be adjusted to fit either hand, right? So it was pretty easy to get comfortable with your left hand? It looks like a pretty well made stick, but I think I'm going to miss my old digital wingman extreme. (You have any idea how many Death Stars I took out with that thing? Actually, the bizarre part of X-Wing is that the trenth run was easier than taking on a Star Destroyer, and Frigates were a NIGHTMARE.)

For those that use dual joysticks, it seems as though the most common setup is to use the left stick for strafing and the right for roll/pitch/yaw.

What I'm interested in is which way do you orient the z-axis on the left joystick? I have it as:

X: Strafe left/right
Y: Accel/Decel
Z: Strafe up/down
