Guild Features/Interface

This a two-part post. The first part deals with guild features. The second with a /guild interface.

GUILD FEATURES

The current implimentation of Guilds is pretty good. It has the basics. But there's a few features that I'd like to see implimented.

1. Guild Livery: allow a guild leader to specify guild coloration. Also allow the leader to decide whether the "guild colors" will be mandatory or not.

2. Guild Treasury: How is a guild supposed to do anything without money? This should allow for deposit and withdrawl limits to be set. IE: Council Members can do anything, normal Members can only withdraw 10000c/week. Something like that.

3. Guild War: A guild should be able to set its state as "at war" with another guild. Members of opposing guilds will show up as hostile on each others' radars. Members of the same guild will show up as green.

4. Guild Entrance Requirements: Allow guild leaders to set entrance requirements for the guild. IE: A 10000c entrance fee, or to be levels 4/4/4/4 or higher, or to have completed 50 cargo missions, or to have killed 10 Sercos. Or whatever

5. Guild Missions: We have group missions, why not guild missions? Or better yet, let guild leaders make their own missions. But that might be abused too much...

6. Configurable ranks: The current ranking system is okay. But it's a little too segregated- you're either a member or not. Some guilds need more heriachy (sp?). A configurable ranking system would be nice.

7. Guild MOTD: Let a guild leader set a MOTD that shows up on all of the guild members' screens when they log in. Sort of like the buddy note function, only guildwide.

8. Guild Goals: Sort of like the description field on an IRC channel. This would let potential members know what the guild is all about.

9. Guild Radar: A guild should be able to set customizable colors for guild members to show up to each other as on the radar. For example, an Itani guild might set their radar color as Blue, and then all guild members will show up as blue on each others' radars. There should be at least -some- differentiating colour, if not a customizable one.

10. Guild Navigation: By purchasing a special transponder system, a guild can allow its members to see what sectors they are all in on the navmap. This would allow large-scale cooperation.

GUILD INTERFACE

Even with our current featureset, the command-line interface to the Guild functions just doesn't cut it. There's too much to be done to have to rely on a command-line interface. We desperately need a GUI for it. I mean, this is from a company called GUILD SOFTWARE...

I'd say add a tab to the Station (I know, another tab!) for guild setup. If you're not already in a guild, it might present an option to create a guild, a button to show a list of guilds in existance (so that you can perhaps join one) and stuff like that.

If you're a current member of the guild, the screen would show the Guild MOTD, a list of the various leaders, some personal info like your rank, info about wars in progress and perhaps a button to interface with the treasury. PLus all the current functions.

If you're a leader of the guild, there would be options to invite people, kick people out, set the MOTD, manage the trasury, manage wars, manage rank, manage livery, and everything else we've got and I specified above.

Anyhow now it's time for everybody else to post their thoughts.

Guild logo: appears on a certain part on all ships, if you arent in a guild, or choose not to, you can have a logo of your choice on your ship.

We have discussed custom decals before. The consensus was that it would be a pain in the ass for the client to have to load 5000 seperate custom logos every time it logs on.
Then having to make sure the logos are rated G would be a logistical nightmare. Nobody wants to have to deal with a bunch of ships flying around the galaxy with a giant penis painted on the side.

I agree with Magus... That's why I limited it to livery...

Just put the guild tag on the ship (text, not graphics).

But make sure it's in Waylonics.

 î?‘î?†î?‰î?ˆî?ƒî?…î?? To see that you need to be in UTF-8, and you need to have the latest version of the Vendetta font, located here: http://www.sheean-spoel.com/fonts/Vendetta_Chat.ttf

On some systems even that won't be enough and you actually have to switch your browser to 'vendetta chat' font.. it would be cool if we could add a <p style="font:vendetta chat"> then that wouldn't be a problem anymore ;)

Ya know, not to do the compare and contrast thing but:

Aces High (www.hitechcreations) allows for approved custom skins to be played in game. I don't know the exact numbers on how many are there, suffice to say----a lot.

They managed to do it with a reasonable amount of ease with just some download time while in game based on a percentage of the available connection.

I honestly don't know if I'll ever get close enough to observe the colors, to be honest.

What I would like to see is some sort of place where I can acquire guild information. Maybe a look up function of some sort?

That way when I'm tooling around and I see some SYN cat rolling up on my shizzle, I can just fire off a slash command and see "wow---these homeboys are pirates" or something.

Perhaps even a guild roster that cna be viewed or something? Maybe off character info?

Thinking out loud I guess....

I agree with most of rogues sugggestions. Actually, I have just erased a comment on the very some issue when i saw this thread. Something like a bank account for a guild would be definitely nice. Furthermore, the guild creation phase should be prolonged: I had for example a really hard time in actually creating the vipers because of ppl living in different time zones and not being all online at the same time. Concerning the hierarchies: I think the system should be more flexible and less flat. You pretty much impose a certain (fixed) form of "government" by your current implementation.

Having commands like "/guild list all" and "/guild list current" would be nice. A notification system (similar to that for the buddies) would be nice as well like
"/guild note all <text>" to all members or
"/guild note council" to the council members.

/guild list all in a large guild would flood your chat for a good two or three minutes. Just imagine listing the entire INM or SDF in there.

well, since the SDF has a roster of umm 1, (me inactive) that wouldnt take long.

To fix the guild tag thing, how about this since it works in EVE..
you can choose a background colour, a back icon, and another icon on top of that. So you can have a black background, crossbone back icon, and a skull top icon, jolly roger! This way it is impossible to make an inappropriate guild decal. and the computer only needs to load the different parts to the guild tag.

As troublesome as it may turn out to be, we really need a guild mission system. That could serve as an entrance requirement to new recruits. They complete missions for a guild, and their standing with that guild goes up (treat it all like factions). Then, once they have the standing, cash, and other requirements, they're allowed in the guild.

Guild missions could make it much easier to manage large-scale campaigns too. I.e., escort a player-flown supply ship (or convoy) from one base to another. Missions like that could be an on-going requirement for some guilds.

Not sure how a general-purpose guild mission creator would work. Maybe things like "Kill [someone]" or "Don't let [someone] be killed" or "Retrieve [item]" - simple things that would be hard to be abused.

Do any other games have a similar ability to specify mission-like tasks?

what about nested/sub guilds? I would make sense to be able to subdivide a guild.

for example:

IN = Itani Nation
IN.M = Itani Nation millitary
IN.T = Itani Nation trade corp's

Bump. Again.

I agree with most of the earlier comments. A dedicated GUI (tab) might not be on the top of my list, but certainly desirable.

My suggestions:

1: Guild Management
I am the commander of a guild and I do not feel that I have the right tools to do my job. Most of the guld members have not logged on since release and I would really like to demote some counsilors and a lieutenant that are not playing and promote the active players. This is a serious problem, if guilds do not work, the game community as a whole suffers.

2: Make this thread sticky
There are certainly many areas of the game that have potential for improvement. However, in my experience, the game community IS the game. Guilds play a crucial role in any mmorpg community. At present I feel this is the greatest weakness of Vendetta. I suggest to make this thread sticky and would also like to request an update from the devs on their plans for the guild system.

As a newish player I'm interested to see how guilds develop, as they should be a major factor in gameplay.

As for custom logos, while I might not see anything wrong with a cartoon phalus painted on a phalus-shaped ship, I can see where others might. At the same time, I look at City of Heroes' logo system, where they have a huge assortment of elements available to build a logo from, which would give plenty of custom options, limit how much the client has to download, and keep everything "clean".

I would like to see the guild req to be toned down. We have three players that would love to start a guild but the 10 player limit is a little to strong. Recruiting isn't working out for us to well and we think if we had a guild in place it would make recruiting easier. Also I would like to see something like they had for jumpgate were there are user pages on the main site that explain the guild to new members.

the current creation system is ok as far as i can tell. no need to have thousands of 3 players guilds until we have milions of players.

i have some sugestions (i'd call them bugs rather) that are on the bugs forum: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/2/7082

i am waiting on good news on this as well.
