Saw that. Using it now. Kewl, Andy!
I suggest that we fix the "Search" function so that it produces decent results.
(No, don't tell me that "this has already been suggested..." hehe)

It could be useful to have an implementation of the <pre> tag (monospaced text not ignoring white space).
Better to wrap it in a BBCode [code] tag, though, to reduce exploit-ishness.
Are there more tags coming along? Maybe some tag to display a picture in the post ? Is there a list of tags available for forum use somewhere ?
There is:
[*img](insert URL path to image)[/img]
and;
[url=(insert URL)]tag[/url]
NOTE:
omit all asterisks and ()s and insert the proper paths where the () are. Replace "tag" with a descriptive word or phrase.

Could we get a forum section for the mission editor, where PPC members can swap tips, ideas etc?
pleeease?
pleeease?
I'd still like a *post read* marker.
OK, it's now 2007. Since release, these are the feature requests for these forums:
--- search form ---
x add a search hints & tips
- search posts by username
- search topics by subject
- user-selectable search sort order
- paginate search results
- make search form WORK properly (default functionality appears to be boolean OR instead of boolean AND, only returns one page of results)
x BBcode support (partial support: italics, bold, underline, [url] and [img] tags.)
x pagination of threads [completed in /mbtest/ sandbox]
- time zone and page length setting per-user
- darken links for already-viewed topics
- make page listing more convenient to use
- gray out the "previously read" posts
- polls
- a profile you can get by clicking on someone's name? (profile is OPTIONAL and includes character info, AIM, MSN, ICQ, YIM, IRC, Real Name, In-Game name, PM etc.)
- posts since last visit feature
- "You have posted too many threads" LImiter (haha Thanks, Spider)
X RED names for Guild SW Developers
- YELLOW names for Moderators / Guides
X NO signatures allowed (I agree wholeheartedly with this, not really a feature but a request to BLOCK a common board feature)
- "view my posts" link
- new posts in threads you've posted in feature
- a way to auto-wrap nonbreaking blocks of text, and possibly also enclose remote imagelinks within scrollboxes if they exceed a set size.
But, seriously, I'm not gonna suggest phpBB, but how about SMF? Or vBulletin?
All of these features are available through either of those forum systems. Or is Guild Software completely opposed to any open-source forum system?
And if they ARE opposed to such things, I only have one request, and you can forget all the rest: FIX THE SEARCH.

thread owner moderation privilege within the role playing forum.
that might actually solve a lot of moderation issues. most of the "violations" occurring in the rp forum.
perhaps just a flag that hides a moderated-out posts with an option to "view all" so thread viewers (and owner) masochists can view moderated-out content.

I agree with upper case, the role playing forums really do present the most challanging front for the moderators.
However, I feel there's a much simpler solution.

Being that we have to avoid repeat feature requests when posting suggestions for the game perhaps it would be a good idea to also make each feature request a pole so the devs could also see how popular each feature request is.
Opinion polls would indeed give the devs an idea of how popular a suggested feature is. That would be good one day when they have exhausted their current mandatory "to do" list. At the moment they really have to plan carefully and do things in the order that makes the most of their limited resources.
it's clear that no matter how clear it's being made to "read prior to posting" in the suggestion forums, there will always be the blind compulsive clickers.
how about we make this page's link to Suggestions instead point to this page and have the last line of that page point to the actual forum?

Make the links to threads/forums where there has been a new post white/red/whatever color that isn't the current links' shade of blue.
dupe.
*sigh*

Briefly proposed by Ecka during the past NW:
Split the Role Playing Forum into a properly RP forum, and an Events forum, where players organizing and hosting events can post their threads without stomping on CNN's and wannabe-Isaac-Asimov's toes.

Yes , a separate forum for player run events would make sense in the long term . The times of events could then be stickied at the top of the thread since I feel its a bit impolite to bump up the NW times post .

Maybe you could use Community Projects for your... community projects?

Well, the community projects forum tends to be the place for player developed addons, wheras NWs and such like are events .
