Please pin this thread.

The current search feature on the forums is terrible. How ever, a lot of the time when you need to find a post, you can recall the name of the person who posted it or the title.

I just searched for a couple threads (by thread title and by poster), I got a lot of hits but none were the ones I was looking for. By pinning this thread... if we keep this thread updated. people who recall the thread title or the author of the post can simply pop in here and find it rather than use the search function which is about the least polished aspect of the VO site.

All we'd have to do is...

1: PIN THIS THREAD
2: A mod or more ideally, the people who post... copy paste the thread/link
3: PIN THE DAMNED THREAD ALREADY, IT'LL TAKE ALL OF FIVE SECONDS!!!

Also, with VOs new site in the works... it might not be such a bad thing to have an archive of posts with easy access.

This is intended to be an index of threads listing all threads by the poster. You can be lazy and lump all your threads together or you can break them up into categories.

I even got it started. I have no objection to continuing to update it, hell... if I have to... I'll keep updating it with every Suggestion, General and Role Playing post that gets written. Honestly, I'd rather the players do it, but if I have to I will.

The search feature is borked beyond belief.

The "Index of RP threads" hasn't been updated by the OP since July 4, 2008 and overlooks many good RP stories for what ever reason.

"PLEASE READ PRIOR TO POSTING A SUGGESTION" thread...(though way more helpful than the search "feature" is often overlooked and very infrequently updated.

Quick experiment to illustrate my point about the search "feature"...

The Search "Feature"....

Useful, no? Fifty results, with repeats for a very specific search (thread title and OP's name), and absolutely none of were what I searched.

Google....

Same search phrase, except I added "Vendetta" at the end... just to be safe. Top two hits... this is just embarrassing!

Now that Ryan went through the effort of doing that I think it should be stickyd . The rp index hasn't been updated in forever either and this would ne a handy feature considering the search function is. Not very intuitive ( things like being able to search title only or first 5 posts would be nice)

I agree but, pinned or not... we (the players) can keep it on the first page easily enough by simply updating it when ever we make a post on any of the forums. Honestly, I think it would be worth it just to keep track the Suggestions and Role Playing forums.

It could also make it easier for newbs to avoid making repeat suggestions, while getting an idea how well received an idea they have is, or if their idea is similar but different enough to warrant a new posting.

I don't even want to think about everything I've posted. Thankfully, I deleted most everything from 2005-2006 last time I broke off for a while. There's still way too much though.

Seriously... this is what I get when I do a search for abortretryfail, Paradoxical and Space999999. All these people at the time of the search have threads on the first page... Space999999 had two threads on the first page of suggestions and a search for him turns up this...

Honestly, can we just get this thread pinned? The new site is great and all, but there has been no change to the search system. This way each person can keep it updated as they post. Or if people are to busy/lazy to update it.... I will update it (at least to the point where the most prolific posters will be updated.).

I've been away for the past 4 or so years, tried to do searches to see if anyone i knew is still active on here, but all I got was a couple of posts mentioning them. A search for posts by poster would be nice. Or am i overlooking something that can tell me whether people are active or not?

Welcome back. Nope, you're not over looking anything, there really isn't any way to see who's active. The easiest way to see who's currently active is just to ask in game.

This may help... this is strictly based on folk I've seen in game, and is far from complete...
